Massapequa Lake, also called Caroons Lake, is filled with patches of spatterdock that are all but impossible to fish through. The edges provide the best place to catch fish in the lake.
The bass population has been taking an upswing in recent years, presumably because of bass washing over the dam at Massapequa Reservoir. Panfish can be caught, but not in as high numbers as other locations in Nassau County.
Large carp are present in the lake, with many fish reported over 10 pounds each year, including a few that have been reported over 20 pounds.
Directions: Massapequa Lake is located in the Massapequa Preserve just north of Merrick Road. Take Merrick Road a few blocks east of Route 107. The lake will be on the north side of Merrick Road.
Restrictions: Boats are prohibited, but shoreline access is available.
